Sam Simpson is a 2020 graduate of Rogers High School and recipient of the TPS Foundation scholarship. Sam is majoring in education in adolescent and young adults in mathematics. He recently shared with us not only how life at The University of Toledo has been, but also his experience at Toledo Public Schools.
What was your overall experience like at TPS?
It was an amazing experience and I absolutely loved going to Rogers. My goal is to teach at Rogers when I am finished with college.
What prepared you the most for college?
My Spanish teacher Mrs.Slawinski, she truly helped prepare me for college. She was the most amazing person I have ever met. She helped me through so many things and I gained a great bond with her. I will say I am thankful that I had great relationships with all my teachers in high school.
Let’s talk college now – What are you enjoying most about The University of Toledo?
I’m enjoying the lectures and in-person classes. I really wish COVID-19 wasn’t around because then I could get the full college experience, but overall it has been amazing.
Can you tell us a little bit about what you are doing now?
Right now I’m taking 14 credit hours and enjoying all of my classes. With my coursework this semester it has opened my eyes even more to the world of education. I’m also a UT cheerleader – Thankfully we have been able to have practices and have been able to cheer at a couple of games this fall. Being involved in cheerleading has allowed me to meet so many people.
Do you have any advice for the students of TPS?
I would say, take advantage of all the opportunities that become available to you. Toledo Public Schools has so many resources and when used correctly, can benefit you in the long run!
