There have been some great questions asked by the students within the district about the TPS Foundation Scholarship Application – we wanted to share those questions with you as well as the answers.
Do I have to be attending a university or apprenticeship in Ohio in order to receive a scholarship?
No, you do not have to be attending a school in the state of Ohio in order to receive a scholarship. As long as you are enrolled in an accredited university or apprenticeship you can receive our scholarship.
Do I have to have my FASFA complete in order to apply?
No, you do not have to have your FASFA complete in order to apply. We do recommend you completing your FASFA as it is there to help provide additional funding to help further your education.
Can we use an essay that we have written already for the application?
Yes, you may use an essay that you have already written as long as it fits within the essay questions we ask. You have to choose one of the follow questions to write about:
1. What traits do you have that will enhance your education and future employment?
2. What life experiences have shaped who you are today and what challenges have you overcome in achieving your education?
3. Describe something you’ve done in the past year that made a difference in your community.
4. Describe an event in which you took a leadership role and what you learned about yourself.
Can I start working on the application but then come back at a later time to finish the application?
Yes, you are able to start working, save what you have done and then close out. You were asked to create a log in and password prior to starting the application. You will just need that information in order to get back in to complete the application.
Can I re-apply for the scholarships next year (2023)?
No, you cannot re-apply. This is a scholarship application only for seniors graduating in 2022 going into college or a career tech apprenticeship in the fall of 2022.
What is the average amount of a scholarship given?
Our scholarship amounts range from $1,000 – $5,000.
How many scholarships in total are given out by the TPS Foundation?
We currently have 40+ scholarships available.
What if I have already received a full-ride scholarship for tuition from the university I am going to attend in the fall – can I still apply for the TPS Foundation Scholarship?
Yes, you can still apply to the TPSF Scholarship. That is awesome that you have received a full ride, but things like books as well as room and board are not covered under most full-ride tuition scholarships.
Are only Toledo Public School students able to apply for the TPS Foundation scholarships?
Yes, only students enrolled and subject to graduate in the Spring of 2022 from at Toledo Public School high school are eligible for the TPS Foundation Scholarships.
How long is the application open for?
The TPS Foundation Scholarship application is open November 15, 2021 – February 1, 2022.
